The king has committed to Hugh of Oteover custody of the counties of Shropshire and Staffordshire and the king’s castles of Shrewsbury and Bridgenorth with appurtenances for as long as it pleases the king, such that he will render to the king per annum at his Exchequer for the profit of the aforesaid counties £126 13s. 4d. and he is to keep the aforesaid castles at his own cost, and he will complete the corpus comitatus of the same counties and it will be allowed to him in the aforesaid farm as much as the king took from certain hundreds placed at farm from the time when Robert of Grendon was the king’s sheriff of the same counties.

7 Nov. Westminster. Concerning the manor of Gunthorpe and soke which have been committed. And for that custody he has paid one mark of gold in the king’s Wardrobe to Artald etc. The king has committed to Walter of Lowdham custody of the manor of Gunthorpe with the soke of Lowdham and all its appurtenances together with the stock of the same manor from Michaelmas in the thirty-ninth year until the end of seven years next following. Order to the sheriff of Nottinghamshire to deliver that manor with the aforesaid soke and all its appurtenances to the aforesaid Walter to keep, as aforesaid, together with all things taken therefrom after the aforesaid Michaelmas and to cause the aforesaid stock to be valued by the oath of trustworthy and law-worthy men. And by a cirograph completed between the aforesaid sheriff and the aforesaid Walter concerning the manor and the stock of the its park, he commits the aforesaid stock to the same Walter so that at the end of the aforesaid term he will answer to the king concerning that stock or its value, and he is to send the part of the cirograph which shall remain in the possession of the same sheriff to the barons of the Exchequer under his seal. The king has committed to Stephen Frommund custody of his castle and manor of Marlborough with the barton of the same castle and the hundred of Selkley and all its appurtenances, and his castle and manor of Ludgershall with the barton of the same manor and its appurtenances together with the stock of the same manors from Michaelmas in the thirty-ninth year until the end of five years next following, so that for the issues of the aforesaid he is to render per annum at the Exchequer £140, namely one moiety at the Exchequer of Easter and the other moiety at the Exchequer of Michaelmas. And he is to keep the aforesaid castles and manors at his own cost and at the end of the aforesaid term he is to restore the houses of the aforesaid bartons and the demesne lands of the aforesaid manors in the same state in which he received them. The king has committed to Robert Walerand custody of the castle and manor of St. Briavels and the forest of Dean with appurtenances from Michaelmas in the thirty-ninth year until the end of five years next following, so that in the meantime he is to have all the issues and proceeds of the king’s demesnes, annual rents and the king’s weirs of the same manor and also of foreign lands and of the great mines, external forges of the aforesaid forest and customs of pit-coal which is led beyond the right of way of the [river] Severn through the aforesaid forest to Gloucester, [and also of] pasturage, wind-fallen wood, covet (‘cooperonu’’) thrown down by the wind, pannage, ashes (‘cinerum’), nuts (‘nutui’’), and chestnut-trees of the same forest together with the perquisites of the same forest and hallmoot of St. Briavels, and of the cordwainers and sieve makers of the aforesaid forest. And he is to render in respect thereof per annum at the Exchequer £160 namely one moiety at the Exchequer of Easter and the other moiety at the Exchequer of Michaelmas. Whereas the king’s beloved consort and queen and the king’s beloved brother and faithful Richard, earl of Cornwall deputed to the custody of the realm, the king being in Gascony, on his behalf sold to the king’s beloved in Christ Alice de Redvers countess of Devon custody of the manor of Chilton with appurtenances in the isle of Wight formerly of Richard de Langeford’, to have until the legal age of son and 1 heir of the aforesaid Richard together with the marriage of the same heir for 100 m. to be rendered to the king at his Exchequer, and the same countess could not have had the marriage of the aforesaid heir because Mary de Curtenay established a title to the marriage of the same heir against the king in his court by decision of the same court, the king in recompense of the said marriage by the counsel of his aforementioned brother has pardoned the same countess of the aforesaid 100 m. up to 50 m., so that for the same 50 m. she is to render two and a half marks of gold in leaf to the king in his Wardrobe at Michaelmas in the fortieth year, and another two and a half marks of gold in leaf at Easter next following, and order therefore to cause the same countess to be quit of 50 m. of the aforesaid 100 m., and to have the aforesaid terms for the remaining 50 m., and it to be done and enrolled thus. 2 And he has letters patent therefor.

For Fulk fitz Warin. Fulk fitz Warin junior has made fine with the king by two marks of gold or 20 m. of silver to be paid into the king’s Wardrobe at next Pentecost for having justices, namely the abbot of Pershore and the sheriff of Herefordshire, go and determine the dispute between the same Fulk and John fitz Alan in the marches of Wales. 1 Afterwards he paid 20 m. into the Wardrobe and is quit.
