He is also to make inquisition diligently as to whether there are concealed escheats or marriages in his bailiwick which ought to pertain to the king and whether any alienation has been made in his same bailiwick of the king’s sergeanties that are held of the king in chief without the king’s will and confirmation, and he is to take into the king’s hand both all escheats and marriages aforesaid pertaining to the king and the aforesaid lands alienated thus from his sergeanties. He is also to certify the king distinctly and openly under his seal and the seals of those by whom the foregoing has been inquired about all the foregoing, and how much each land so taken into the king’s hand is worth, and of whom the aforesaid lands [were held], the names of the vills in which the aforesaid lands are, and what chattels have been found in each of the lands, sending this writ to the king with the abovesaid inquisition. He is to cause the corn, plough-beasts, stock and all moveables found in the aforesaid lands to be recorded before the bailiffs or keepers of each of the lands, and he is to commit them to four law-worthy and discreet men of each of the vills to keep, so that nothing is removed therefrom without the king’s special order.
