Concerning the castle of Sauvey which has been committed. The king has committed the custody of the castle of Sauvey with appurtenances to Reginald de Mohun for as long as it pleases the king for 5 m. to be rendered annually at the Exchequer of Michaelmas [...] as William Trussel was previously accustomed to hold that castle.¹ And he has letters patent in respect thereof as contained in the Patent Roll.² By the king.

The king has pardoned Gruffydd ap Gwenwynwyn 11 m. which are exacted from him by summons of the Exchequer for having a fair at his manor of Ashford in the county of [Derbyshire]. The king, concerning 500 m. that are demanded from John de Gray, who took to wife Joan who was the wife of Paulinus Peyvre, by summons of the Exchequer for a fine which the same Joan made [...] for having custody of the land and heirs of the same Paulinus until the legal age of the same heirs, and concerning another 500 m. that are exacted from the same John by summons of the [same Exchequer] for a fine which he made with the king for a trespass which he made in taking the same Joan to wife without the king’s licence, and concerning an account to be rendered at the same Exchequer from the time when he was [...] of Chester, has given respite to the same John until the quindene of Easter in the thirty-seventh year. The king has given respite to John son of Hugh until the quindene of Hilary in the thirty-seventh year from 15 m. which are exacted from him by summons of the Exchequer of chattels of a certain beheaded malefactor. Ralph de Levinton’ owes the king 20 m. for an amercement he incurred before G. of Langley, of which he has paid 10 m. into the king’s Wardrobe and is quit for buying gold therefor, and he will pay the remaining 10 m. to the king at Easter in the thirty-seventh year. He has land in Cumberland.

The king’s burgesses of Preston¹ owe the king 50 m. for having a charter, of which they will pay the king one moiety at Easter in the thirty-seventh year and the other moiety at Michaelmas next following. They have land in the county of Lancaster.

The king has granted to John Chulbe, his messenger, that house with appurtenances in Bridport that James le Vielur held of the bail of the king for his life, to have and to hold to the same John for his whole life from the king and [...] and his heirs, rendering therefor per annum at the Exchequer 2s. at Michaelmas for all service and custom demanded. Order to the abbot of Pershore to cause the same John to have full seisin of the aforesaid house, as aforesaid.¹ By the king.

The king has committed to Simon de Eltesdon’ custody of his counties of Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire for as long as it pleases the king in the same manner that Alexander de Hamden previously held them, rendering per annum at the Exchequer for the profits of the said counties 250 m.¹ By the king.

The king, for 20 bezants that Belya sister of Cocus son of Jacob of Canterbury, Jew, taken and imprisoned in the Tower of London by an appeal of a certain woman of rape and breaking the king’s peace, paid for the same Cocus in the king’s Wardrobe to P. Chaceporc, keeper etc., has granted the same Cocus that by sufficient plevin he is to be delivered from the prison [where] he is detained for that reason to stand to right thereupon before the justices assigned to the custody of the Jews in the king’s court (curia regis) if anyone wishes to plead against him therefor. Order to the justices to cause the same Cocus to be delivered from the aforesaid prison, as aforesaid.

Osbert de Bolbec has made fine with the king by one mark of gold for having seisin of all the lands and tenements formerly of Ralph de Bolbec his brother and [...] of the bailiwick of the forest of Scalleby’, and for having pardon of a trespass of venison imposed upon him before the justices of the forest. He has paid P. Chaceporc and is quit.

Concerning the keeping of the queen’s gold. Order to Philip Luvel to take care of the queen’s gold and to answer therefor, because the king does not will that John Franciscus or any other take care thereof or interfere into the use of the same queen until the king orders otherwise.

Concerning the manor of Brill which has been committed. The king has committed to the men of Brill the manor of Brill with appurtenances at farm for as long as it pleases the king for £40 to be rendered to the king per annum at his Exchequer, namely £20 at the Exchequer of Easter and £20 at the Exchequer of Michaelmas. Order to Hugh Garget to deliver custody of that manor to them, as aforesaid [...], together with stock of 20 m., concerning which they are to answer to the king on leasing of the aforesaid manor.¹ And they have letters patent in respect thereof.

The king, concerning £33 that Samuel le Blund, Jew of London, owes to the king, of the arrears of his tallage for the term of Martinmas and the term of Hilary [...] last past, has granted to him that he is to render 50s. at the Exchequer of the Jews at Easter in the thirty-seventh year and 50s. at Michaelmas next following [...], and 100s. so from year to year at the same terms until the aforesaid £33 are paid. Order to the justices assigned to the custody of the Jews to cause him to have those terms and it to be done and enrolled thus.

Because the king has not yet heard that he is satisfied concerning the debts in which Master Henry of Yarmouth was bound to the king for the fine which he made with King John, the king’s father, for having grace,¹ the king has granted to Wlliam son of Karoli of the Wardrobe that [...] for a share of the lands and rents formerly of the same Henry in Yarmouth, which the same William has, he is to render 20s. to the king per annum at the Exchequer of Easter in part payment of the same debts until the aforesaid debts are fully rendered to the king, and the remainder of the aforesaid debts are to be taken from other lands formerly of the same Henry or his pledges and not from the aforesaid portion of the same William.² And order to the barons of the Exchequer to cause it to be enrolled and kept thus.

The king has granted to Aaron of York, Jew, that he is to render 100 m. per annum, namely a moiety at Easter and a moiety at Michaelmas, for all the debts and arrears which he owes the king, nevertheless saving to the king his tallage of 8000 m. which he caused to be assessed upon the community of the king’s Jews in England. Order to Philip Luvel and the justices assigned to the custody of the Jews to cause it to be done and enrolled thus. By the king.

For several Jews. To Philip Luvel, king’s Treasurer, and his justices assigned to the custody of the Jews. Aaron of York, Elias Bishop, Aaron son of Abraham and certain other Jews have entreated the king on behalf of the community of the king’s Jews in England that for 50 m. of gold to be rendered to the king within 15 days he may grant terms to the same community for his tallage to be rendered, namely 4000 m. at Easter in the thirty-seventh year and 4000 m. at St. Mary Magdalene next following, and just as much at the same terms in the year following. Order therefore, the 50 m. of gold having been paid and having accepted from the same community sufficient security for fully rendering the aforesaid money to the king at the aforesaid tems, then to relax the distraint which they make for the same tallage. And if the king’s Jews shall not have kept those terms then they are to make distraint therefor, just as previously.¹ By the king and his counsellors.

The king has granted to Aaron le Blund, Jew of London, that he is to render 60s. at his Exchequer of Easter in the thirty-seventh year and 60s. at his Exchequer of Michaelmas next following, and £6 thus from year to year at the same terms until the £35 which owes to the king for his arrears of Martinmas and Hilary of the thirty-sixth year are paid to the king, saving to the king in all things his tallage of the Jews of Michaelmas last past. Order to the justices assigned to the custody of the Jews to cause him to have those terms and it to be done and enrolled thus, and to cause his chattels taken by reason of the aforesaid arrears to be delivered to him without delay.¹ By the king.

Order to the barons of Exchequer that if they have been accustomed to allow £7 to the king’s sheriffs of London in the issues of the farm of their vill that they owe for the liberty of St. Paul’s, London, then they are to cause the aforesaid £7 which they demand from them to be allowed to the same sheriffs in the aforesaid issues, and if they doubt in any way about the aforesaid allowance, they are to place the demand that they make from the same sheriffs therefor in respite until the king’s first coming to Westminster. Because through scrutiny of the rolls of the Exchequer the king accepts that Thomas de Sutton by a fine which he made before William of York, then king’s justice and others assigned to the custody of the king’s serjeanties, held land of the king in Matfen and elsewhere in Northumberland¹ of the inheritance of Isabella his wife by military service that he previously held of the king by serjeanty when he was king’s coroner, and because, on account of a suit, the aforesaid Isabella after the death of the aforementioned Thomas sometime her husband enfeoffed Thomas de Punthorp of the aforesaid land, as is said, the king understands that by reason of that enfeoffment the sheriff of Northumberland took the aforesaid land into the king’s hand considering that it should be held of the king by serjeancy. Order to all the tenants of the honour of the Peak to be intendant and respondent to the same Richard as king’s bailiff.
